On March 25, 2026, a delegation from the University of Leeds, UK, visited Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU). The two sides held a series of in-depth discussions on core topics including discipline development, joint talent cultivation, and collaborative research and innovation, and hosted an academic program session for all students, further advancing bilateral cooperation across multiple fields to a new level.

Guo Ming, Dean of the School of Economics and Management, Li Hongchang, Vice Dean, Professor Wang Yacan and Associate Professor Wei Wenchao from BJTU met with Professor Julia Bennell, Executive Dean of Leeds University Business School, and Professor Iain Clacher, Vice Dean for International Affairs. Both sides reviewed the achievements of the well-established and regularly operating dual master’s and dual doctoral joint education programs, and spoke highly of the fruitful outcomes of past cooperation.

On that basis, they exchanged views on optimizing whole-process program management, improving joint education quality, and strengthening academic and career support for students. They also held detailed consultations on the implementation rules of the newly signed doctoral visiting program. In addition, the two sides fully discussed cooperation directions such as upgrading international education in economics and management, faculty exchange visits, and building a cross-border research cooperation platform, and reached consensus on a number of potential cooperation items.

Professor Wu Jing, Secretary of the Faculty Party Branch of the School of Environment, Professor Yin Jiateng from the School of System Science, Teacher Zhao Jing from the School of Traffic and Transportation, and relevant faculty and student representatives of BJTU held in-depth talks with Professor Bill Murphy from the School of Earth, Environment and Sustainable Development and Associate Professor Huang Yu, Program Lead of the Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds. Focusing on superior disciplines including environmental science and sustainable development, transportation engineering, and system science, they exchanged ideas on discipline co-construction, joint research, and student exchange programs to explore further cooperation potential.

The visit by the University of Leeds delegation has deepened the quality improvement of existing cooperation programs such as dual master’s, dual doctoral joint education and doctoral visiting programs between the two universities. It has also expanded the scope of international cooperation across multiple disciplines and dimensions, including economics and management, environmental science, transportation, and system science. Going forward, the two universities will take this exchange as an opportunity to continuously promote the implementation of cooperation in joint talent cultivation, collaborative research and innovation, and faculty exchange visits, helping to steadily enhance the international education level of Beijing Jiaotong University.
